Ilocos Sur records 16 fireworks injuries

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – The Ilocos Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recorded five fireworks-related injuries on New Year’s Eve in this province.

Ilocos Sur PDRRMO head Rhon Arquelada said the victims – four minors and one adult – sustained minor injuries and were from Santa Maria, Santa Cruz, Santa Lucia, Santo Domingo, and Magsingal. They were promptly given medical attention.

This province logged a total of 16 FWRI victims from Dec. 23, 2024 to Jan. 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, a 54-year-old housewife was shot and wounded on New Year’s Eve in Barangay Pong-ol here.

Investigation said the victim was shot by unidentified gunmen after the suspects threw an unidentified object at the glass of her window to catch her attention and lure her out.

The victim was taken to a hospital. Follow-up investigation is underway.
