Western Visayas logs P36.7-M damage to agriculture from bad weather

ILOILO CITY — Damage to agriculture from the southwest monsoon or habagat enhanced by severe tropical storm "Opong" in Western Visayas has increased to P36.7 million.
Consolidated report released by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-6 on Tuesday, Sept. 30, said Iloilo registered the biggest damage at P25.78 million.
One-thousand, one-hundred seventy-one farmers were affected and 1,057 hectares of agricultural land were damaged.
Widespread damage was recorded in Antique, Aklan, and Capiz provinces.
The provincial DRRMOs are still awaiting damage assessments from municipal governments.
Antique was hard hit with the majority of the province flooded.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) said 1,186 farmers and 1,474.78 hectares of land were affected in Western Visayas by the recent bad weather.
