Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. on Tuesday, Sept. 30 dispelled rumors of a coup plot on the part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) against President Marcos amid the Sept. 21 rallies.

"Walang nagbalak sa AFP. Maraming nagdadasal na may nagbalak sana pero walang nagbabalak sa AFP (No one in the AFP planned anything. Many were praying that someone would, but no one in the AFP is actually planning it)," Teodoro said in a chance interview after a briefing with the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation.

"Lahat ng organisasyon may discontent. Pero kung ang discontent na ito ay may kinalaman sa pag-aaklas, hindi yon. Dasal ng iba yon. Pero hindi mangyayari yon (Every organization has discontent. But if this discontent is about staging a revolt, that’s not the case. That’s just the prayer of some people. But it won’t happen)," he added.

He also stated that on the part of the DND, the AFP remains stable. This is in response to Vice President Sara Duterte's statement that the Marcos government is no longer stable.

He added that the country's problem is not the military.

"Ang problema ng bansa ay hindi militar. Ang solusyon hindi rin militar. Ang solusyon ng mga problema ay tamang project management, tamang pagtugon sa imprastruktura, at ang korupsyon na dapat ang mga may kinalaman dito, kahit sino, kahit gano kataas, ay maparasuhan at mahusgaan nang tama (The country’s problem is not the military. The solution is not the military either. The solution to our problems is proper project management, proper response in infrastructure, and ensuring that those involved in corruption—no matter who they are, no matter how high their position—are punished and judged accordingly)," Teodoro said.

"Crediblity issue ito at seryoso ang Presidente dito. So politically may political problems, hindi naman natin tinatanggi yun eh. So politika din ang solusyon, corruption problems, judicial ang solusyon at prosecutorial (This is a credibility issue, and the President is serious about it. So politically, yes, there are political problems—we don’t deny that. So the solution is also political. For corruption problems, the solution is judicial and prosecutorial)," he added.

Teodoro also stated that the military remains committed to the Constitution as well as the chain of command.

"It remains supportive of the constitution, naturally. And the chain of command is very important. And it is important they they do not do roles that are not theirs to play," he said.

"We have already had several experiences with the military interventionism and I think the country has learned, should have learned its lesson," he added.

Meanwhile, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa said that the rumored coup plot was tackled during an executive session with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) and the National Security Council (NSC).

But the senator was mum on the details of the private meeting.

“It was taken up,” Dela Rosa said in an ambush interview.
