CEBU CITY – The newly installed archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu urged the faithful to pray as the nation continues to grapple with allegations of massive corruption in government infrastructure projects.
Archbishop Albert “Abet” Uy said the faithful can turn to prayers as the quest to hold accountable those involved in massive corruption continues.
“We really need to pray because right now, it is difficult to say who is telling the truth,” Uy said.
Uy issued the call shortly after his installment as the fifth archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral here on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
He assured Cebuanos that he will join the fight against corruption.
The prelate said he will not only stand against anomalous flood control projects but also other forms of corruption.
“As the new archbishop, I told the Cebuanos that I am with them in our advocacy against any form of corruption. There are a lot of forms that we have to work together…I am with them to campaign against corruption,” said Uy, who replaced Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Jose Palma as he reached the canonical retirement age of 75.
Archbishop Chares John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, formally installed Uy.
The solemn event was also graced by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who served as the homilist.
