One box per family: DSWD warns vs splitting food packs

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reminded local officials and beneficiaries that its family food packs are strictly intended for one household and must not be divided among several families.
In a video message posted on the agency’s social media pages on Tuesday, Sept. 30, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said the agency continues to receive complaints about some food packs being split and distributed to multiple families despite clear instructions.
“Each box is for one household,” Gatchalian said in FIlipino.
“If you live in a house with five people, you should receive one box immediately. This box is for a family of five, and it can last up to four days,” he said.
The family food packs, which are distributed during disasters and emergencies, come in sealed boxes marked with their contents and warnings against tampering or repacking.
Gatchalian said penalties for violations are also printed on the packaging itself.
He urged the public to report to DSWD’s official Facebook account any instances of family food packs being divided or repacked.
“The food packs we distribute are meant for affected families who need assistance. These must reach each Filipino family intact, especially during times of calamity,” he said.
DSWD earlier released a video showing the contents of the food boxes to ensure transparency and help beneficiaries recognize authentic food packs.
