3 cops wounded in anti-illegal firearms buy-bust

BATANGAS CITY – Three police officers were wounded by a suspected gunrunner in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Bolbok here on Monday night, Sept. 29.

Three police officers – Police Major Edgar Fabregas, chief, Batangas City police station intelligence branch; and Police Staff Sgt. Karl Ernest Fabonan and Police Staff Sgt. Arvin Ilagan – were wounded and taken to the hospital.

The suspect fled and he was killed in a follow-up operation on Tuesday morning, Sept. 30, in Barangay Bolbok.

Batangas police director Police Col. Geovanny Emerick Sibalo identified the suspect as Ronald de Guzman, a resident of Barangay Bolbok.

The suspect was taken to the Batangas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Our swift and responsive action demonstrates our unwavering commitment to community protection and our ability to act decisively under pressure while prioritizing public safety. Criminals may run, but they cannot hide from the law under our watch. Dahil Dine sa Batangas, Walang Takas,” Sibalo said in a statement.
