Storm-hit Masbate gets aid from Bicol provinces

LEGAZPI CITY – Masbate's neighboring provinces of Camarines Sur, Albay, and Sorsogon have sent aid to the province severely damaged by severe tropical storm ‘’Opong’’ (international name ‘’Bualoi’’).
Camarines Sur dispatched a mobile command center to serve as a hub for their operational efforts.
The province also sent 131 disaster response personnel, 15 chainsaws, 10 Starlink satellites, 150 tents, generator sets, and a Veragon air-to-water facility, which captures water from the air.
It also mobilized several vehicles, including a mobile diagnostic van staffed by four doctors, 10 nurses, three medical technologists, two radiologists, a sonographer, and a pharmacist.
Also deployed are a dental van with three dentists, lorry trucks to supply water, and utility vehicles for logistical support.
Gov. Luis Raymund Villafuerte of Camarines Sur said the province is ready to help in times of calamity.
“In times of disaster, Camarines Sur does not stand by; we show up. When Filipinos are in need, we respond,” he said in a post.
Albay is providing P1-million financial aid, along with two trucks of water, sanitation supplies, and domestic water trucks staffed with 20 personnel.
Gov. Noel Rosal called for unity to support Masbate, urging collective efforts to rebuild and restore hope.
“This is a time for humanity to rise above borders and differences. Together, we can help rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and bring hope back to the people of Masbate,” he added.
Sorsogon will also send heavy equipment, logistical vehicles, and personnel.
“We've all experienced typhoons. Our brothers and sisters in Masbate need help. That's why we'll immediately send a delegation,” Sorsogon Gov. Edwin Hamor said in a post.
The city government of Legazpi City pledged P500,000 for Masbate City.
“In times of disaster, unity, care, and generosity are crucial to ease the burden of our affected brothers and sisters,” Legazpi City Mayor Hisham Ismail said.
Masbate Gov. Richard Kho thanked those who sent aid to his province.
“To all who have extended their hands to the province of Masbate, thank you very much,” he said in an interview.
ho assured his constituents that Masbate would recover from the calamity, saying, “Makakabangon tayo (We will rise from this).” (PNA)
