The Malabon City Government and the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, Sept, 29, reopened a six-story building at the San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital (SLRGH), expanding its capacity to 200 beds to provide better and more accessible healthcare services for residents.
The reopening was held in time for the hospital’s 26th founding anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 28.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the inauguration together with DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, represented by Metro Manila Center for Health Development Assistant Regional Director Dr. Karen Fernandez, and former Congressman Ricky Sandoval.
"Sa pakikipagtulungan ng Kagawaran ng Kalusugan at sa inisyatibo ng dating kinatawan ng ating lungsod, Cong. Ricky Sandoval, muli pong binuksan ang San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital, na ngayon ay mas moderno at makapagbibigay ng mas komprehensibong serbisyo para sa mas maraming Malabueño (In partnership with the Department of Health and through the initiative of our city’s former representative, Cong. Ricky Sandoval, the San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital has been reopened—now more modern and capable of providing more comprehensive services for more Malabueños)," she said.

“Ngayon, kasabay ng mga programa ng pamahalaang lungsod, ay mas makakasisiguro ang ating mga kababayan sa kanilang kalusugan. Patuloy tayo sa pagtupad ng ating layuning mas magandang serbisyo para sa lahat (Now, together with the programs of the city government, our people can have greater assurance when it comes to their health. We will continue working toward our goal of delivering better services for everyone)," Sandoval added.
The upgraded facility now houses operating rooms, a labor room, an intensive care unit, an emergency ward, and modern diagnostic equipment including MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, 2D echo, x-ray, and colposcopy machines.
Additional equipment such as a digital fluoroscopy machine, C-arm machine, and hystero-laparoscopy tower is set to be installed soon.
The city’s Public Information Office said the expansion was made possible through House Bill No. 5791, authored by former Representative Ricky Sandoval during the 17th Congress, which secured funding under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program.
In 2019, Republic Act 11289 converted the former San Lorenzo Ruiz Women’s Hospital into the San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital, enabling further upgrades.
It added that the bill secured funding for a larger hospital site and the construction of a new six-story facility under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program.

"Isang malaking tagumpay para sa Malabon. Mula sa pagiging isang maliit na pasilidad ng San Lorenzo Ruiz Women’s Hospital, ngayon ay isa na itong Level 2 General Hospital na handang magbigay ng de-kalidad na serbisyong medikal para sa ating mga kababayan (A major victory for Malabon. From being just a small facility of San Lorenzo Ruiz Women’s Hospital, it has now become a Level 2 General Hospital, ready to provide quality medical services to our fellow citizens),” former Congressman Ricky Sandoval said.
“This project is proof of our compassion and collective effort for a better and safer future,” he added.
From its beginnings as a 10-bed municipal hospital in 1990, the facility has grown into a 200-bed Level 2 General Hospital recognized as a PhilHealth-accredited Center for Quality, ISO 9001:2015 certified institution, and Red Orchid Hall of Fame awardee.
Initially established as the San Lorenzo Ruiz Municipal Hospital and later renamed the San Lorenzo Ruiz Women’s Hospital in 1998, the facility has expanded over the years in line with Malabon’s push to strengthen healthcare services.
SLRGH has also earned national recognition, including accreditation as a PhilHealth Center for Quality, ISO 9001:2015 certification, and the Red Orchid Hall of Fame Award.
The hospital is now positioned to deliver affordable, quality healthcare to Malabueños, highlighting the city’s continued investment in public health.
