The Department of Tourism (DOT) is giving college students in third and fourth year levels the chance to develop innovative tourism projects that can transform local communities.
In a statement, the DOT said there will be three national winners and each of them will receive ₱5 million under the Tourism Start-Up Challenge 2025.
The DOT said the initiative allows students to turn academic knowledge into actionable proposals that generate measurable social, economic, and environmental impact while advancing the tourism sector.
Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are invited to form teams of six students and one adviser to participate in the challenge.
Proposals must align with the National Tourism Development Plan and focus on at least one of six priority pillars: facilities and demo labs, immersion and career development, technology innovation and digitalization, start-up and incubation centers, research and development, or tourism education.
Each HEI may submit only one proposal showcasing innovative ideas by Filipino youth.
Projects should be designed to deliver maximum impact within the allocated budget of ₱5 million while demonstrating creativity, feasibility, and tangible benefits for local communities and the tourism industry.
The competition will start with provincial vetting from Nov. 19 to 21, followed by regional judging on Jan. 14 to 16, 2026, where regional finalists will receive ₱250,000 each.
National winners—one from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao—will be selected during the final judging from Feb. 11 to 13, 2026.
Judging will focus on relevance to the theme, originality and creativity, potential impact, feasibility, and responsiveness to local context, ensuring projects promote inclusive participation, strengthen tourism, and respect local resources and cultural heritage.
HEIs may submit proposals through their CHED regional offices until Oct. 31, with the awarding ceremony scheduled on Mar. 18, 2026.
