It was all business.
Noy Remogat set the record straight and stressed that there was nothing personal between him and the University of the East, after he steered University of the Philippines to its first win at the expense of his former team, 92-75, at Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday, Sept. 28.
Struggling through his first two games as a Maroon, Remogat finally broke out of his slump, incidentally against the Red Warriors -- a team which he played for two years.
“Wala naman gigil kasi yun nga, galing kami sa dalawang beses na pagkatalo. Yung gigil kasi, pwede mangyari na panget or maganda,” said Remogat.
“Siguro, mas nag-focus lang ako sa dapat ko gawin as a point guard and hindi ko ginawang basis yung UE para maging maganda yung laro ko,” he added.
Remogat, 25, took over in UP’s bounce back win, uncorking 21 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and two steals to put their title-retention bid back on track.
It was an output far cry from his previous games where he only had combined five points, four assists, and two rebounds in their defeats to Adamson (62-59) and UST (87-67).
He went scoreless against the Soaring Falcons.
“Naniniwala kasi kami na playing as a champion team, nagii-start palang sa bawat isa,” Remogat said. “Kaya sa practice palang inayos na namin ‘yong mga dapat ayusin.”
Head coach Goldwin Monteverde emphasized that their teamwork played a huge role in breaking UP’s two-game slide and hopes it continues throughout the season.
“For me, of course, yung mga ganitong panalo would always feel positive, especially if it’s our first win,” Monteverde.
“For me, more than the win, it’s how we played this game today. It’s understanding that we need each other to achieve something big,” he added.
With their victory, Remogat and Co. hiked their record to 1-2 and will try to keep the momentum when they face National University (2-0) this Saturday, Oct. 4, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
