The Taguig police arrested two male suspects who were allegedly involved in a shooting incident that injured two, including a minor.
In a report, the Taguig police said the shooting happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 along DMC Street in Barangay Sta. Ana, Taguig.
The victims were identified as Jesus Jesus Abisia, 26; and a 13-year-old. They were standing on the roadies when a suspect, identified as Charles Catalan appeared with a companion.
Without warning, Catalan allegedly fired several shots at the victims, hitting them in the feet. The suspects immediately fled onboard a motorcycle without a plate number.
The two victims were brought to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for treatment and were later reported to be in stable condition.
The shooting was reported to the Taguig police’s Substation 4. A joint team composed of the trackers team and intelligence operatives launched follow-up operations.
Through CCTV footage, the suspects’ identity and whereabouts were established, which led to their arrest.
Police operatives arrested Catalan, 19, a resident of Barangay Wawa, Taguig City, who voluntarily confessed to being the gunman, the Taguig police said.
He identified his companion as Dexter. Another police operation led to the arrest of suspect Dexter Mangampo, 23, also a resident of Barangay Wawa.
During a confrontation, the victims and witnesses positively identified the suspects as the perpetrators of the shooting.
The police recovered from Mangampo a .45-caliber Colt pistol, with a magazine and five pieces of live ammunition. Catalan yielded a .38-caliber revolver with three pieces of live ammunition. Authorities also confiscated a motorcycle used as the getaway vehicle.
Based on records, the Taguig police said Mangampo had a previous arrest for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) in January 2022 and is a subject of a standing warrant of arrest for physical injury.
The two suspects are under police custody and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and two counts of frustrated murder in relation to Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) as one of the victims is a minor.
