BACOLOD CITY - A 62-year-old caretaker was recently arrested in Barangay Estefania here for the murder of two sugarcane field caretakers.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) said the suspect, a resident of Barangay Talotog in Murcia, Negros Occidental, was the region’s second most wanted person.
He was arrested by the Murcia police on a warrant for two counts of murder issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 48 in Bacolod City on Sept. 1. No bail was recommended.
The suspect allegedly conspired with three unidentified individuals in shooting the victims.
Police said that the killings in Murcia were allegedly the result of a land dispute between a landowner and a positioner over sugarcane harvesting rights.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to public safety and emphasized the vital role of community cooperation in maintaining peace and order in Negros Island.
