A 41-year-old motorcycle rider died in a collision with an Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) in Cainta, Rizal, early Sunday, Sept. 28.
According to the Cainta Municipal Police Station (Cainta MPS), the incident occurred at around 1:10 a.m. and was reported to them at around 3 a.m. by the Barangay Public Safety Officer (BPSO) of Barangay Sto. Domingo in Cainta.
Based on their investigation, the victim, identified as “Alfred,” was traveling in the inner lane along Felix Avenue, heading towards Marcos Highway. Meanwhile, the AUV driver, identified as “Jolly,” was driving in the opposite lane and making a left turn, and heading towards CVS Homes 1.
Upon reaching the front of CVS Homes, the victim suddenly collided with the AUV's right front side portion.
Due to the impact, the victim was thrown and fell on the road, which resulted in his immediate death.
Based on the command center’s CCTV footage, the victim appeared to be moving at a faster speed compared to the AUV, which was running at a moderate pace, according to police.
Authorities said the AUV driver is now in police custody and may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
Meanwhile, Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto reminded motorists to drive carefully and maintain proper speed, stressing that their families are waiting for them at home.
“Tamang bilis lang tayo sa kalye… tamang tawid din lang kahit walang trapik… kahit maluwang ang kalye… lalo’t kung madaling araw… dahil may nag aantay sa atin sa pag uwi (Let us keep to the right speed on the road and cross properly, even when there is no traffic or the streets are wide, especially at dawn, because our families are waiting for us at home),” he said.
