Lawyer who denies signing affidavit in flood control probe no longer with BJMP

The lawyer who denied notarizing the affidavit of a retired Marines sergeant during the flood control project mess hearing in the Senate is no longer connected with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
This was clarified by the agency as it confirmed that lawyer Petchie Rose G. Espera already resigned in September last year.

Espera’s name surfaced after demanding that her name be stricken out in the affidavit bearing her notarial name and signature, signed by ex-Marines Orly Guteza, the alleged ex bodyguard of Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co who claimed to have delivered kickbacks from public works projects.
“The use of my name and notarial commission in connection with said document is spurious, fraudulent, and injurious to my reputation as a member of the Bar and as a commissioned Notary Public,” Espera said.
Guteza appeared at the sixth hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the anomalous flood control projects, claiming to have participated in the delivery of “suitcases of cash” to the residences of politicians accused of corruption.
“Any recent issues linking her (Espera) to a notarial controversy are matters of her personal and professional practice and have no relation to the BJMP or its mandate,’’ the BJMP said.
