THE DSWD-6 Quick Response Team (QRT) distributes food packs to far-flung areas in Maayon town in Capiz province affected by tropical cyclone ‘Opong.’ (DSWD-6)
ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development has distributed more than P22.3 million in assistance for tropical cyclone ‘Opong’ victims in Western Visayas as of 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
Opong affected around 355,548 persons in 1,284 barangays in 91 towns and cities in the region.
The DSWD-6 Quick Response Team (QRT) under its Disaster Response Management Division extended food items and non-food items, including sleeping kits and kitchen kits, to evacuees.
Antique was the most affected by Opong with massive flooding and mudslides. Flooding was also recorded in the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, and Iloilo as well as the regional capital Iloilo City.
The DSWD-6 under OIC Regional Director Joselito Estember reported that local government units have released P926,974 in relief assistance.
