PCG recovers Chinese rocket debris in Palawan

It’s raining rocket debris in Palawan.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Friday night, Sept. 26, that it retrieved a suspected Chinese rocket debris in Cuyo, Palawan.
The debris was found by a local fisherman in the vicinity waters of Barangay Funda, Bisucay Island. A PCG footage dated Sept. 22 showed the huge, white debris on the shoreline found by a local with foreign markings on it.
“Preliminary assessments suggest that the materials are linked to a recent launch from China's Long March rocket program,” PCG spokesperson for West Philippine Sea (WPS) Commodore Jay Tarriela said.
China launched a March 2C rocket with a Yuanzheng-1S upper stage last Sept. 16.
Tarriela said that the mission, conducted from an undisclosed location, was part of China's ongoing efforts in space exploration, including satellite deployment and technological advancements.

Upon the discovery of the debris, village officials immediately informed the Coast Guard Station Eastern Palawan about the incident. The area was secured to ensure public safety and facilitate proper handling of the debris.
The debris was placed under the custody of the Coast Guard District Palawan for safekeeping.
But Tarriela said it will be transferred to the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) for detailed analysis, verification, and assessment of its origin and composition.
Commodore Neil Azcuna, district commander of Coast Guard District Palawan, urged Palaweños to remain vigilant and report any sightings of suspected rocket debris to the nearest Coast Guard station, barangay officials, or relevant authorities.
They were also advised not to handle or move such materials due to potential safety hazards.
