BI supports Bacoor City's fight vs human trafficking

Bureau of Immigration (BI) officials and employees joined the residents of Bacoor City in Cavite in their campaign against human trafficking.
The campaign, dubbed Community Awareness, Responsive Action, and Vigilance Against Networking (CARAVAN) and launched by the city ‘s local government, was held at the city’s Strike Gymnasium last Thursday, Sept. 25, the BI said in a statement.
It said the campaign was participated in by representatives from 47 merged barangays, members of local homeowners’ associations like Federation of Springville City Homeowners Associations, Inc. (FOSCHAI) and BHOACI, Housing Urban Family members, and key officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Department of Education (DepEd).
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said that the members of the bureau’s Gender and Development (GAD) committee, led by Deputy Commissioner Joel Alejandro Nacnac, shared frontline experiences on intercepting trafficking attempts at the country’s International Ports of Entry and Exit (IPEE), including accounts from trafficking survivors.
Viado said the participants were also provided with information on common trafficking schemes and signs of illegal recruitment to make them more aware of fraudulent schemes employed in human trafficking.
"The BI, being an active member of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, supports initiatives like this to bring to the grassroots information of current trends in illegal recruitment and human trafficking," Viado said.
The event concluded with the signing of commitment pledges from participating agencies in support of the "StopHuman Trafficking" campaign.
