Authorities arrested two men linked to the “basag-kotse” scheme and recovered P253,000 worth o6f stolen items in Pasig City.

The Eastern Police District (EPD) said that the two suspects, identified as “MM” and “Ackie,” were arrested while personnel of the Pasig City Police Station were conducting an Oplan-Sita operation in front of a police outpost at around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25.

According to police officers, they approached the suspects after noticing their suspicious behavior while carrying several IDs, a passport, and a pouch. The two failed to explain when asked about the origin of the items.

This prompted the officers to examine the passport and contact the woman whose name appeared on it, asking her to proceed to the outpost to claim her belongings.

At that moment, authorities said the woman discovered that her parked vehicle in Barangay Rosario had its right front window smashed, and several belongings were missing. These included a mobile phone worth P47,000, three wristwatches valued at about P67,000, jewelry worth P136,000, and P3,000 in cash, with a total value of P253,000.

The victim immediately went to the outpost and identified the recovered valuables as hers.

The suspects are now under police custody.
