637 families staying in evacuation centers in Muntinlupa
A total of 637 families, or 2,824 individuals, are staying in evacuation centers in Muntinlupa due to typhoon “Opong.”
The Muntinlupa City government’s Social Services Department recorded the tally at 10 p.m. on Sept. 26.
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon visited evacuation centers on Sept. 27 to distribute breakfast to the affected families.
During his inspection on Sept. 26, the mayor noted that water levels rose in the areas along Laguna Lake and near rivers, creeks and waterways. He advised residents who live in danger zones to evacuate as a precaution.
The families are staying in evacuation centers in eight barangays in Muntinlupa.
Of the 637 families, 158 were evacuated from Barangay Alabang, 146 from Barangay Poblacion, 141 from Barangay Cupang, 71 from Barangay Buli, 45 each from Barangays Bayanan and Putatan, and 31 from Barangay Sucat.
The families are temporarily staying in schools, covered courts, multipurpose facilities and the Muntinlupa Evacuation Center.
“Opong” did not directly hit Metro Manila. As of 4 a.m. on Sept. 27, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the center of “Opong” was 505 km. west of Indang, Cavite, and “will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this morning or noon.”
“Maaari nang magsimula na bumalik sa kanilang tahanan ang mga nag evacuate maliban kung talagang may panganib sa kanilang partikular na lugar (Evacuees can now begin returning to their homes unless there is a real danger in their specific area),” Biazon posted on Facebook.
He said, “Salamat sa pagbilis ng usad ni Opong at sa paglihis palayo sa Metro Manila, hindi natin naramdaman ang kanyang pag hagupit (Thanks to Opong's acceleration and its deviation away from Metro Manila, we did not feel its impact).”
