San Juan City ready for typhoon 'Opong' — Mayor Francis
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora assured his constituents on Friday, Sept. 26, that the city government is fully prepared to respond to any emergency that may arise as typhoon "Opong" heads toward Central Luzon, including Metro Manila.

Zamora said he had already met with the different concerned departments and agencies of the city government to ensure their readiness for the safety and welfare of San Juaneños.
The city government had made the following preparations:
- Tree cutting operations that are stuck to cables
- Declogging activities on canals and estuaries
- Ensuring that all pumping stations are adequately manned, fully operational, have enough diesel, and are free of garbage
- Cleaning of drainage systems
- Ensuring that all evacuation centers are ready
- Inspecting generators of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and San Juan Medical Center (SJMC)
- Preparing hot meals and food boxes for those who will be affected
- Ensuring that all emergency responders – CDRRMO, PNP, BFP and Coast Guard are ready
The mayor also urged residents to prepare by making sure that their cellphones are fully charged, they have canned goods and water, and flashlight. They may also call the San Juan City Hotline 137-135 in case of emergencies and concerns.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Opong is expected to bring moderate to torrential rains over parts of Luzon and Visayas over the next two days.
From Thursday evening to Friday evening, Sept. 26, intense to torrential rains (more than 200 millimeters) may fall over Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Sorsogon, Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, and Romblon.
Heavy to intense rains (100-200 mm) may also affect Occidental Mindoro, Quezon, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Marinduque, Aklan, Capiz, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Dinagat Islands.
Moderate to heavy rains (50-100 mm) may be experienced in Aurora, Laguna, Cavite, Metro Manila, Bataan, Rizal, Camiguin, and Surigao del Norte.
From Friday evening to Saturday evening, Sept. 27, heavy to intense rains may persist in Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, and Cavite.
Laguna, Marinduque, and Romblon may also continue to experience moderate to heavy rains.
