'Opong' pummels Masbate town, capital

A town in Masbate sustained heavy damage from severe tropical storm "Opong" as it passed over the province Friday.
Photos posted by Engineer Jerome Martinez on Facebook showed houses destroyed and toppled trees.
Among those damaged was a church serving as an evacuation center.
Videos showed the church door unhinged, glass panels broken, trees toppled, and debris scattered around the area as people surveyed damages.
Inside the church, a video showed its wooden ceiling was detached, exposing the roof, with some people milling around.
Several persons were reportedly injured by the tropical cyclone in the municipality.
Also recording substantial damage was the provincial capital Masbate City, photos and videos posted online showed.
