When I found out about this watch, I felt that I was the kind of wearer they were looking for. I’ve tried a lot of sports, from combat sports to a full marathon, trail runs, and even just your typical group classes at the local gym. At the same time, I’m not getting any younger and the injuries and just normal aging are piling up. Loathe as people who get to my age admit it, we do need to start tracking these.
If you’re going to track them anyway, might as well do it stylishly.
Coming out of the box, this looks impressive. If you didn’t tell me it was a smartwatch and gave me this strap and frame I would’ve thought it was a great utility watch. At first glance it can have the feel of a field watch. The round face coupled with flashy edges also give it the feel of a pilot watch. It’s up to each person to customize what their watch face is, but I’ve been using analog arms and fooling people into thinking it a new addition to my sports watch collection.
The watch is built with aerospace grade titanium and its face is fortified sapphire glass. Watch nerds would know from those specs alone that’s premium material. And if you aren’t then just know that this screen won’t be scratching easily. The huge display, the significant chunk of metal this is on the wrist might make you think it’s heavy, but thanks to the use of titanium it is lightweight and heavy duty. I don’t plan to be taking any tumbles on the trails, but suffice to say that if I did, the watch would probably come out in better condition than I do.
Apart from the way the watch is styled and built for sport, as soon as you jump into it you can easily access workout tracking apps. Between the watch and the app you also have access to more tools like drawing running routes or guided workouts. The tracking features here are for serious athletes too, as it’s a professional-grade device for cycling, trail running, and freediving up to 40 meters.
I took this on my usual running route to test it. I know my distance and how long it usually takes me, and this came in accurate to what I expected. When I used it for lifting, it also effectively tracked my heart rate and calorie burn. I have yet to take it on more demanding workouts or activities, but it looks like a good companion for pushing performance. It also keeps track of post-workout heart rates, breathing, and has ECG for checking for heart arrhythmias.
Alongside the fitness and weight loss plans, you can also have goals that are more focused on wellness. I joined the relaxation plan which includes things like reminders to breathe, tracking my heart rate for stress, and even a daily smile.
You can also side-load music into the watch. That means you can leave your phone at home, have music, and track your run. And if during your time out you want to get a drink or a snack, no need for a wallet or phone either as the HUAWEI Watch GT 6 works with Gcash.
The HUAWEI Watch GT 6 Series is the only fashionable smartwatch with 21 day battery life and all around sports and health management. Pro versions promise that much battery life. The one I have been testing has gone 10 days, and that’s already impressive because I’ve been maxing it out, activating all the features, always on display.
If you’re in the market for a watch that has premium build materials and hits all the marks for a sports smartwatch, the HUAWEI Watch GT 6 should be on your list. The whole series will be available in the Philippines on October 2. Learn more at the HUAWEI site, HUAWEI Shopee, and HUAWEI Lazada stores.
