Gian Mamuyac embraces bigger role as ROS team captain

While being the leader for a young and talented crew is certainly a tough task especially for Mamuyac, who is only set to play his fourth year in the pros, the 26-year-old guard is ready to take on the challenge.
“Really, really big shoes to fill, especially coming off yung leaders na susundan ko. The two siguro best people or leaders this organization or even better the league has ever seen or had, si kuya Beau and si kuya Gabe,“ said Mamuyac.
Mamuyac, however, doesn't see any big adjustments for him although he admitted he still needs to get used to talking more seriously to his teammates. Good thing, he still has Belga and Norwood to help him.
“Getting used to it. Medyo mahihirapan po. Siyempre ang gagaling mag-speech nila kuya Beau at kuya Gabe eh. Pag nagsalita talagang lahat makikinig. Hopefully mahigitan ko yun or hopefully ma-match ko yun,“ he added.
For head coach Yeng Guiao, Mamuyac's appointment simply marked the changing of the guards for the Elasto Painters.
The veteran coach said both Belga and Norwood begged off to become the captain, believing it is now the time for the younger players to step up and lead the team.
“It's the younger generation now that's taking over,“ said Guiao.
“Kasi si Bo at Gabe nag-give way so sinabi nila na kailangan ipasa nila yung torch sa mga younger generation. So hindi na sila nag-participate or they abstained or recused themselves from being elected.“
“The mere fact na naipasa na yung torch sa mga bata, that means itong generation at itong group na ito, they're willing to take on the challenges. And they will face the challenges head on,“ added the veteran coach.
