At least 17 villages in Calumpit, Bulacan were hit by flooding due to heavy rains brought about by the combined effects of Typhoon Opong, southwest monsoon, and hightide.
Mayor Lem Faustino said the widespread flooding was reported by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) based on data from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).
Bulacan was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2.
Faustino said a total of 65 families or 221 individuals are currently sheltered in various evacuation centers in the municipality.
She said at least 17 villages in the town were already under 0.5 to 5 feet of water as of 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
The roads in Gugo (Feeder Road) and Meysulao (Sitio Nabong Road) are no longer passable and only boat transport is possible.
The MDRRMO Operation Center and Operation LISTO has been activated for response and monitoring.
Faustino urged her constituents to stay safe and pray. "Your safety is our priority, evacuate immediately to the nearest evacuation center if the situation in your area is dangerous," she added.
Meanwhile, classes in all levels in public and private schools were suspended including government offices except those rendering emergency response.
