The province of Cagayan has been placed under a state of calamity due to the severe effects of super typhoon ‘’Nando.’’
Damage to agriculture and infrastructure was placed at P655.6 million
A special session of the 12th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cagayan on Friday, Sept. 26, presided over by Vice Gov. Manuel Mamba, approved Resolution No. 1, Series of 2025, declaring the whole province of Cagayan as under a state of calamity.
A report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said damage to agriculture was P398,898,405.50; fisheries, P91,996,802.94; livestock, P256,150, and infrastructure, P164,455,500.
A total of 41,001 houses were destroyed, of which 2,616 were totally and 38,385 were partially damaged.
Mamba said the declaration of a state of calamity in Cagayan authorized the provincial government to spend its Quick Response Fund from the Local DRRM Fund for immediate relief and recovery of affected residents, particularly Calayan Island, the hardest hit area by “Nando” in the province.
The Department of Agriculture-Region 2 placed damage to agriculture from successive weather disturbances in the Cagayan Valley region at P597 million.
DA-Region 2 chief Rose Mary Aquino said rice incurred P424 million in damage; corn, P117 million; high-value crops and vegetables, P1.1 million; livestock, P301,000, and agricultural infrastructure and properties, P640,000.
Hardest hit provinces were Cagayan with P324 million and Isabela with P121 million.
Aquino said that her office is validating these figures.
