Bulacan First District Rep. Danilo Domingo broke his silence on Thursday, Sept. 25, denying allegations that he received kickbacks from controversial flood control projects.
In his first public statement since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. revealed the existence of “ghost” flood control projects last Aug. 16, Domingo categorically denied any involvement.
"Nais kong linawin na wala akong anumang partisipasyon sa mga usaping may kaugnayan sa implementasyon ng mga proyekto, at wala rin akong natanggap na anumang benepisyo mula rito (I wish to clarify that I had no participation in any matters related to the implementation of these projects, and I did not receive any benefits from it)," he said.
The lawmaker added that he is willing to cooperate with authorities in uncovering the truth to ensure that government funds are spent honestly and for the welfare of the public.
Domingo, a lawyer by profession, previously served as mayor of Malolos City for two decades, where he was known for his work against corruption and in prosecuting criminals.
Meanwhile, some Bulakenyos expressed expectation that Domingo should be among the strongest voices pressing accountability from former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) District Engineers Henry Alcantara and Brice Hernandez, who were tagged in the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on the alleged anomalies.
