MAYOR Jose Miguel Miraflores checks rising floodwaters in Ibajay town, Aklan province due to tropical cyclone "Opong." (LGU Ibajay)
ILOILO CITY — The town of Ibajay in Aklan province is under a state of calamity due to widespread damage from tropical cyclone "Opong."
The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) passed Resolution No. 2025-061 in a special session on Friday, Sept. 26, formalizing the declaration.
The Ibajay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chaired by Mayor Jose Miguel Miraflores earlier recommended the state of calamity.
All 35 barangays (villages) of the town sustained extensive damage and destruction to public infrastructure, power, communication and other utilities, crops, livestock, fisheries, homes, and private properties.
The resolution noted that with the “disaster and displacement that was brought upon the residents, relief operations must be undertaken to assist the victims and displaced families.”
The declaration enables the municipal government to access the Quick Response Fund (QRF).
“This is for the purpose of responding to, restructuring and/or alleviating the ill-effects of such adverse climate to Ibajay’s populace, agriculture, infrastructure, economy, and health-support systems, subject to the usual accounting and auditing procedures,” the resolution stated.
