6 reported missing in Eastern Samar
CAAP cancels flights due to storm
TACLOBAN CITY - Six individuals went missing in Guiuan, Eastern Samar while traveling from Homonhon Island to the mainland Thursday.
The victims were identified as Jonathan Macabenta, Marjorie Ballayog, James Benedict Badoc, Jeade Badoc, Jaypee Samarro, and Ella Garado, a pregnant woman.
Authorities temporarily suspended search and rescue operations due to severe tropical storm “Opong.”
Eastern Samar remains under tropical cyclone wind signal No. 3 as of posting time.
Opong made landfall in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar at 11 p.m.
Severe flooding and landslides triggered by Opong have been recorded in Eastern Visayas as of Friday morning.
Flights cancelled
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines cancelled several commercial flights scheduled Friday from Tacloban DZR Airport, Catarman Airport, and Borongan Airport due to Opong.
