4 NGCP transmission lines down due to typhoon 'Opong'

Typhoon ‘Opong’ made landfall in Eastern Visayas, disrupting four transmission lines in Samar, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In a situational report issued at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, the NGCP said that the affected transmission lines have impacted four electric cooperatives (ECs), namely the Northern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORSAMELCO), Samar I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SAMELCO I), Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ESAMELCO), as well as Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORECO II).
The grid operator noted that the Calbayog-Allen, Paranas-Quinapondan, Calbayog-Bliss, and Amlan-Siaton 69-kilovolt (kV) lines were among those affected by the storm.
NGCP assured that inspection and restoration efforts are currently in place and will be addressed once the weather permits.
“Specific cities and municipalities affected by the power interruptions are determined by concerned Distribution Utilities, unless the outage affects the entire franchise area,” NGCP clarified.
The National Electrification Administration (NEA) has yet to announce other ECs affected by Typhoon “Opong,” but advised cooperatives to implement contingency measures to minimize the risk of power disruptions in their areas.
