BACOLOD CITY - The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported that 53 barangays have been flooded in 11 local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental, as of 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, due to tropical cyclone ‘’Opong.’’
Flooding affected 10 barangays in Talisay City, eight in Bago City, three in Isabela town, three in Silay City, five in Pontevedra, nine in Hinigaran, three in Moises Padilla, one in Cadiz City, two in Binalbagan, four in E.B. Magalona, and five in Valladolid.
The number of evacuees increased to 8,132 families composed of 31,838 persons.
Binalbagan had the highest number of evacuees with 5,432 families or 22,909 persons in Barangays Payao, Bagroy, Marina, San Jose, Santo Rosario, San Vicente, San Teodoro, Paglaum, Enclaro, San Pedro, Canmoros, and Progreso; 833 families or 3,055 individuals in Barangays Damgo, San Jose, Tabigue, Latasan, Alicante, and Santo Niño in E.B. Magalona; 1,263 families or 3,815 residents in Barangays IV, Aranda, Cambugsa, III, Tagda, Palayog, Narauis, Bato, Nanunga, and Pilar in Hinigaran;
Ten families or 42 individuals in Barangays Alim, Culipapa, Bacuyangan, and Damutan in Hinoba-an; 26 families or 86 persons in Barangays Rizal, Patag, and Mambulac in Silay City; 142 families or 362 persons in Barangays San Juan, Antipolo, and San Isidro in Don Salvador Benedicto; 134 families or 530 persons in Barangays 5, Maytubig, Rumirang, and Bulad in Isabela town; 156 families or 515 individuals in Barangay Zones 3, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 12-A, 14, 14-A, and 14-B in Talisay City; six families or 31 persons in Barangays Malingin and Atipuluhan in Bago City; 83 families or 314 individuals in Barangays Biak na Bato and Sag-ang in La Castellana; five families or 22 persons in Barangay 1-A in Manapla, and 42 families or 157 individuals in Barangays RSB and San Miguel in La Carlota City.
The road in San Francisco Village in Barangay Nabulao, Sipalay City, where a minor landslide occurred, is now passable. Two houses were partially damaged in Barangay Damgo, E.B. Magalona, and another in Barangay Mambulac, Silay City.
Mayor Greg Gasataya reported that 2,505 families were displaced in this highly-urbanized city, with 255 families staying in evacuation centers. Affected residents initially were from Barangays 10, Banago, Cabug, Pahanocoy, and Taculing.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) is on heightened alert for rescue operations.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, said that he has directed all police units to undertake proactive measures and maintain maximum preparedness to safeguard lives and property.
“Your safety is our priority. Let us work together to minimize the risks and ensure that no lives are lost during this storm,” Ibay said.
