Pasig LGU sets up tents, equipment at evacuation sites ahead of 'Opong'
As severe tropical storm "Opong" is expected to approach Metro Manila from afternoon to evening of Sept. 26, the local government of Pasig immediately prepared for its possible impact on the city.
Following a pre-disaster risk assessment with the support of barangay offices, tents and other equipment were deployed as early as Thursday morning, Sept. 25, to several areas commonly used as evacuation sites in the city.
In addition, operations related to declogging the city’s drainage systems are ongoing to prepare for possible flooding. It is also a part of the daily Oplan Kaayusan in Pasig.
The local government added that weather conditions are also being closely monitored.
For emergencies, Pasigueños may contact the Pasig City Emergency Hotline at 8643-0000.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Opong may reach typhoon intensity before making landfall over the Bicol Region on Friday.
It is then expected to weaken as it crosses Southern Luzon, but will likely remain a typhoon or be downgraded into a severe tropical storm during its passage.
PAGASA said the highest wind signal that may be hoisted during the passage of Opong is Signal No. 4.
Re-intensification is highly likely once Opong emerges over the West Philippine Sea before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday afternoon or evening, Sept. 27.
