Muntinlupa LGU activates siren to warn residents about 'Opong'
The Muntinlupa City government activated its siren (public address system) to warn residents about severe tropical storm “Opong.”
The Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management (MCDDRM) used the siren on Sept. 25 when the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in Metro Manila due to the possible effects of “Opong.”
“Bilang bahagi ng paghahanda, nagpatunog ng Public Address System / Sirena ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Muntinlupa upang ipaalam sa lahat ng residente at bigyang babala ang mga nasa mababang lugar na maging alerto at handa sa posibleng pagbaha dulot ng malakas na ulan (As part of the preparations, the Muntinlupa City Government has sounded the Public Address System / Siren to inform all residents and warn those in low-lying areas to be alert and prepared for possible flooding caused by heavy rain),” the MCDDRM posted on Facebook.
It added, “Ang Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 ay may lead time na 36 hours kaya naman hinihikayat ang lahat na gawin ang nararapat na mga paghahanda para sa banta ng paparating na Bagyong #OpongPH (Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has a lead time of 36 hours, so everyone is encouraged to make appropriate preparations for the threat of the approaching Typhoon #OpongPH).”
It reminded residents the following:
• Be vigilant of the weather
• Monitor the condition of the river and flood-prone areas
• Continue to follow the official advisories of the City Government
In a bulletin issued at 11 a.m. on Sept. 25, PAGASA announced that as of 10 a.m., "the center of Severe Tropical Storm Opong was estimated based on all available data at 335 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (11.1°N, 128.8°E)."
