Mayor Nancy denies involvement in DPWH flood control projects scandal
Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay
Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay on Thursday, Sept. 25, slammed accusations made by former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo that she was involved in the anomalous flood control projects during her tenure as senator.
"Nagugulat at nalulungkot ako na dinadamay ako sa mga anomalya ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Walang katotohanan ang mga bintang sa akin. Tahimik po tayong nagtatrabaho bilang Mayor ng Makati. Nakakagulat na nagagamit tayo para ipanglihis sa mga tunay na kailangan panagutin sa issue na ito (I am surprised and saddened that I am being implicated in the anomalies of the DPWH. The accusations against me are untrue. I am working quietly as the Mayor of Makati. It is surprising that I am being used to divert attention from those who really need to be held accountable for this issue)," Binay said.
"Madaling magbigay ng mga mali at mapanirang salaysay. But my performance in public service has always been above board and beyond a shadow of doubt (It is easy to give false and damaging accounts. But my performance in public service has always been above board and beyond a shadow of a doubt)," she added.
The mayor made the statement after Bernardo identified her as one of the senators who allegedly received kickbacks from the anomalous projects.
In his affidavit, Bernardo said Binay allegedly received a P37 million kickback which he personally delivered at a house in Quezon City.
“Former DPWH District Engr. Henry Alcantara collected 15 percent commitment or about P37 million which was turned over to me and which I then delivered to Senator Binay at a house in Quezon City," the former official said.
