The Malabon City government has stepped up preparations to safeguard its residents and minimize the impact of Typhoon Opong.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval convened the city’s disaster response cluster on Thursday, Sept. 25, for the Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment meeting, directing agencies to finalize contingency plans.
The coordinated effort includes the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), City Social Welfare and Development Department, City Health Department, City Engineering Department, Public Safety and Traffic Management Office, and other partner agencies such as the Bureau of Fire Protection and Malabon City Police Station.
“Bawat bagyong dumaraan ay may banta, ngunit mas mahalaga ang ating pagkakaisa at kahandaan. Nais nating masiguro ang kaligtasan ng bawat Malabueno (Every storm that passes by poses a threat, but our unity and preparedness are more important. We want to ensure the safety of every Malabueno)”, Mayor Sandoval said.
The MDRRMO has activated its 24/7 command center, deployed rescue vehicles and boats, and readied mobile services such as shower and laundry stations, charging hubs, and a mobile clinic.
Evacuation centers are also equipped with food packs, sleeping kits, and hygiene supplies prepared by the City Social Welfare and Development Department.
Hospitals, health centers, and barangay clinics have been placed on alert for medical response and psychosocial support.
The City Engineering Department, meanwhile, confirmed that all 40 pumping stations remain operational and clearing equipment are ready in case of road obstructions.
To support mobility and safety, the Public Safety and Traffic Management Office is prepared to implement “Libreng Sakay” for stranded commuters, while the police and fire bureau will focus on maintaining order, securing evacuation centers, and assisting in rescue and relief operations.
Sandoval urged residents to remain vigilant, heed advisories, and coordinate with authorities during emergencies.
