LTFRB starts franchise review of 3,972 PUVs passing Commonwealth Avenue
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has started conducting a review of the franchise of a total of 3,972 public utility vehicles (PUVs) that pass Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said the move was aimed at determining if how many of these vehicles are actually in active service following the observation made that the PUVs passing along the area appeared to be less than 1,000.
As a result, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez said a number of commuters are having difficulty riding on time and appeared to be fighting one another in an effort to arrive in their respective workplaces on time.
He then ordered the LTFRB to review all the PUV franchises traveling along Commonwealth Avenue.
“Franchise holders that are found inactive or not operating will be required to explain through show-cause orders,” said Guadiz.
Lopez earlier used public transportation on his way to office and it was then that he found out the daily struggle of commuters along Commonwealth Avenue alone..
It was Lopez who ordered all DOTr officials to commute at least once a week for them to experience and personally observe the situation on the ground, and find ways to help the commuters.
Guadiz assured that it is focused on safeguarding commuters’ welfare.
