CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Calabarzon Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) is under red alert ahead of the expected landfall of tropical cyclone "Opong."
Opong is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rains in most parts of the region while peak of its rainfall will be felt from Friday afternoon until Saturday while moving towards the West Philippine Sea.
RDRRMC Calabarzon chairperson and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional director Carlos Eduardo Alvarez III presided over a full council meeting and immediately switched to pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA) to ensure that all available assets are prepositioned and ready for dispatch.
He asked the public to stay alert and pre-emptively evacuate if needed.
While on red alert status, the highest level of activation signifying anticipation of an emergency situation, the RDRRMC activated regional response clusters to manage resources, preposition food and non-food items, and other assets in strategic areas such as Cavite and the municipalities of Balayan, Laurel, Agoncillo and Talisay in Batangas and Mulanay in Quezon to ensure quick and efficient management of disaster response operations
