'OPONG' track
CEBU CITY – Heavy rains brought by severe tropical storm "Opong" forced the suspension of classes in several areas in Cebu province on Thursday, Sept. 25.
Class suspensions on all levels in both public and private schools were declared in around 20 towns and cities until Friday, Sept. 26.
Among the local government units (LGUs) that declared class suspensions were the Bantayan Island towns of Madridejos, Bantayan, and Santa Fe and the Camotes Island towns of San Francisco, Pilar, and Poro.
Classes were suspended in Tuburan, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Tabogon, Sogod, Carmen, Catmon, Asturias, Borbon, Consolacion, and Liloan.
The cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Naga, Talisay, and the towns of Naga and San Fernando also cancelled classes.
Storm signal No. 1 was hoisted over Danao, Bogo, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Tabogon, San Remigio, Borbon, Sogod, Tabuelan, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela, and Asturias – all located in northern Cebu.
Rough seas forced the cancellation of sea trips.
The Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas (PCG-7) suspended sea trips across northern Cebu.
The PCG-7 said as of noon Thursday, there were 261 stranded passengers after 34 vessels, seven motorbancas, and 215 rolling cargoes were not allowed to sail.
