ZAMBOANGA CITY – Ten supporters of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered to authorities here on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The ceremony formalizing their surrender was held at the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-9 headquarters in Camp Col. Romeo Abendan.
The surrenderers, aged 29 to 69 and residents of various municipalities of Sulu province, turned over a cache of 32 high-powered firearms and ammunition.
The surrender was made possible through intelligence operations, consistent community engagement, and negotiations by police counterparts in Sulu.
The surrenderers took their oath of allegiance to the government and underwent interviews and documentation by the Intelligence and Investigation section of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-9.
Police Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta, PRO-9 director, commended the personnel involved for the successful surrender.
