Super Typhoon 'Nando' causes ₱2 million damage to electric coops

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) reported that electric cooperatives (ECs) in North Luzon sustained around ₱2 million worth of infrastructure damage from the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Nando.”
In a situational report as of 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, NEA said 13 ECs in Luzon are faced with partial power outages, namely Abra Electric Cooperative (Abreco), Batanes Electric Cooperative (Batanelco), Batangas II Electric Cooperative (Batelec II), Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco), Cagayan I and II Electric Cooperative (Cagelco I and II), Ifugao Electric Cooperative (Ifelco), Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC), Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative (ISECO), La Union Electric Cooperative (Luelco), Mountain Province Electric Cooperative (Mopreco), Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Panelco), and Zambales I Electric Cooperative (Zameco I).
According to NEA, power has been restored in 107 out of 233 storm-hit municipalities, while around 307,006 consumer connections remain under restoration.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that the Luzon grid has returned to normal conditions, following repairs in affected areas.
These included restoration works at Tuguegarao-Magapit 69-kilovolt (kV) line, Magapit-Camalaniugan 69-kV line, and Lal-lo-Sta. Ana 69-kV.
NGCP assured its readiness to monitor Tropical Storm “Opong,” which entered northeastern Mindanao at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Meanwhile, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) reported that it is working on restoring power to 1,700 affected customers in Bulacan, Metro Manila, Batangas, and Cavite.
