For more than three decades, Sr. Aristea Bautista has been a tireless advocate for indigenous communities in the Philippines, and has earned her the respect and support of organizations like the AY Foundation and JCI Manila, which have recognized her as a true champion for the underserved.
Motivated by a strong sense of humanity, she has dedicated her life to community development in remote areas, establishing foundational initiatives that address the most pressing needs of underserved populations.
In 1997, she founded the Mangyan Health Center, which provides crucial health services to Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities with the support of the Department of Health (DOH) and a network of volunteers.
Recognizing the critical need for education, she also founded the award-winning PAMANA KA schools, which have not only promoted literacy but also trained Mangyan educators and administrators, ensuring a sustainable and culturally sensitive approach to learning.
Beyond her work in health and education, Sr. Aristea's impact is deeply rooted in empowering communities to claim their rights. She was instrumental in training PASAKAMI Mangyan Federation tribal leaders in community organization and leadership, equipping them with the skills to advocate for their own interests.
Her tireless efforts culminated in a monumental achievement in 2010 when she helped the HAGURA (Hanunuo, Gubatnon, Ratagnon) Mangyan tribes secure their Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title.
Even after 33 years of selfless service, Sr. Aristea's dedication remains unwavering, leaving an enduring legacy of empowerment and social justice.
