Security in Pangasinan prov'l gov't-run hospitals stepped up
MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The head of the Provincial Hospital Management Services Office (PHMSO) in Pangasinan has ordered increased security and restricted access measures within the premises of 14 provincial government-run hospitals.
PHMSO head Dr. Tracy Lou Bitoy, in a memorandum issued on Wednesday, said this is in view of recent events and the ongoing need to ensure the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors within all hospital premises.
"This memorandum serves as a directive to immediately review, reinforce, and implement stricter security measures across all facilities," she said.
Bitoy urged hospital chiefs to conduct immediate security assessments, evaluate protocols, identify vulnerabilities, increase security presence at key points, and intensify patrols during peak hours and night shifts.
The hospitals were also mandated to enforce strict access control by verifying identification for all personnel and visitors, and limiting access to sensitive areas, such as intensive care units, operating rooms, and pharmacies, to authorized individuals only.
Bitoy directed upgrades to surveillance systems where needed. “Ensure that all closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are operational and monitor all key areas. Evaluate current CCTV coverage and, if found insufficient, initiate procurement or submit a formal request for additional CCTV units,” she said.
Bitoy asked the hospitals to coordinate with local law enforcement and conduct security drills and training sessions for hospital staff as part of staff awareness and emergency preparedness.
“Our healthcare facilities must remain a place of safety for healing and care. Let us work together to safeguard our hospitals and uphold public trust," she said.
Gov. Ramon Guico III announced increased security, stricter visitation, and entry rules in 14 provincial hospitals following a newborn abduction at Lingayen District Hospital. The baby has been safely returned to his family, and the suspect was arrested. (PNA)
