Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon announced on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 24 the suspension--but not the definite conclusion--of the House Infrastructure Committee's (infra comm) investigation on the flood control projects controversy.
"Today, we are announcing the suspension of proceedings of the House Infrastructure Committee to give way to the full and impartial proceedings of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI)," Ridon, the overall chairman of the infra comm, said in a press conference.
He doubled down on his previous pronouncements that he was ready to cooperate with the Palace-created ICI in its own investigation on the corruption scandal that has rocked the nation to its core.
"Within the next few days, the infra comm will turnover all transcripts, documents and other pieces of information and evidence to the ICI, and it is our commitment to fully cooperate with the ICI on any and every aspect of our previous proceedings," said the lawyer-solon.
Asked if the suspension of the infra comm entails the possibility of it being reopened, Ridon gave a safe answer.
"I think for as long as the ICI is a conducting its work, doing the work for transparency, accountability and justice, [the] proceedings of the House Infrastructure Committee will remain suspended," he said.
Under its chairman retired Supreme Court (SC) Justice Andres Reyes Jr., the ICI has been carrying out almost daily hearings, inspections, and other activities since the start of the week.
Meanwhile, the Ridon-led infra comm has held two hearings on the flood control projects mess. Especially explosive was its Sept. 9 hearing, when ex-Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assistant district engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez linked Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva to anomalous flood mitigation projects.
Speaker Dy to appear before ICI
In the same presser, Ridon shared that House Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III intended to turn over infra comm documents that same day.
"Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III will go to the ICI today to turn over the transcripts and all documents of the previous proceedings. I think he will go there within the day," the Bicol Saro lawmaker said.
"I think para maipakita ho talaga natin sa mga kababayan yung kanyang institutional commitment (I think in order to really show to our countrymen his institutional commitment) to work with ICI, it will be Speaker Bojie Dy himself [who] will turn over the documents to the ICI today," he added.
Journalists are waiting for Dy at the ICI headquarters in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City as of this posting.
