CEBU CITY – The Sining Santo Tomas de Villanueva Kulturang Mananayaw of the Cebu Technological University-(CTU) Danao Campus emerged as the biggest winner in the Karansa Festival 2025 in Danao City, northern Cebu province on Sunday, Sept. 21.
The CTU-Danao Campus delegation was declared as the grand winner in the ritual showdown.
Lyssa Kim Sicad, also of CTU-Danao Campus, was crowned Karansa Festival Queen. Sicad also won the Best in Festival Queen Costume, Best Group Presentation, and Best Solo Performer in Streedancing awards.
The Best in Choreographer award went to CTU-Danao Campus with Patrick Adrian Laugan and Rolando Manto Jr. co-winning the accolade.
Hugpong Maalamong Mananayaw of Ramon M. Durano Sr. Foundation Science and Technology Education Center finished first runnerup in the ritual showdown while Pundok sa Madasigong Masloganon of Mariano L. Espera Jr. National High School and Nagahugpong Kabanay ni Durano of D. T. Durano Memorial Integrated School placed second and third runner-ups, respectively.
Pundok sa Madasigong Masloganon won the Best in Streetdancing award while Hugpong Maalamong Mananayaw took the Best in Costume award.
Winning the Best in Andas award was Tribu ni Beatriz of Beatriz D. Durano Memorial National High School.
Tribu ni Beatriz’s Christine Rizaldo bagged the Miss Photogenic Award while Alexin Francheska Gulane won the Best in Opening Production accolade.
Spearheaded by Mayor Nito Durano and his daughter, Vice Mayor Ivy Durano, the celebration of Karansa Festival was made more special when Most Rev. Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, celebrated the Fiesta Pontifical Mass.
In his homily, the Papal Nuncio honored Santo Tomas de Villanueva, the city’s patron saint, who looked and cared for the poor.
