The Consulate General of China in Davao celebrated the 76th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China with a reception at the SMX Convention Hall Ballroom. Consul General Zhao Xiuzhen with her team warmly welcomed guests, including the officials of the City Government of Davao, the different Chinese communities across Mindanao, and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
In her welcome address, Consul General Zhao Xiuzhen shared the developments of her nation. “Over the past 76 years, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, hundreds of millions of Chinese people have achieved a historic leap from securing basic sustenance to building a moderately prosperous society in all respects,” she said.
She shared the accomplishments of China, like the successful completion of its poverty alleviation goals at the end of 2020, lifting over 800 million people out of poverty, and the 5.3 percent year-on-year GDP growth in the first half of 2025.
The Chinese Consul General also highlighted that 2025 also marks the 50th year of diplomatic relations with the Philippines, citing that mutually beneficial cooperation remained the theme of the China-Philippines relations, and China is the Philippines’ largest trading partner.
Davao has found its way onto China’s tables via the exportation of durian and other tropical fruits. In the infrastructure sector, the completion of the Davao River Bridge and the ongoing Davao-Samal Bridge is aided by China. The latter, once completed, will significantly boost local economic development once it connects the two islands.
Present at the affair was acting City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, who commended the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Davao City for continuously fostering a stronger partnership that has yielded significant benefits for the Filipino and Chinese communities in the city, particularly in economic development, tourism, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.
“May we all be further inspired to work towards a future of shared progress, mutual respect, and lasting friendship between Davao City and the People's Republic of China,” said Duterte.
