ILOILO CITY – The Bureau of Immigration arrested two Chinese nationals for illegally operating a restaurant at world-famous Boracay Island.
The BI identified them as 34-year-old Zhang Ke and 40-year-old Li Jun.
The restaurant reportedly owned by Zhang is found on the Station 2 beachfront of the country’s most popular beach destination in Malay town, Aklan province.
Zhang holds an employment visa for a company based in Makati City while Li, a cook, is an undocumented alien with no immigration documents.
BI Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said they were apprehended on Monday, Sept. 22, with the support of the Malay Municipal Police Station, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Philippine Navy.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado lauded the operation.
“We remain vigilant against foreign nationals who circumvent our laws by engaging in illegal work or managing businesses without proper authorization,” said Viado.
“Boracay is a prime tourist destination, and we will not allow individuals to take advantage of our hospitality while violating immigration laws,” added Viado.
They face deportation and detained at the BI detention facility in Taguig City.
