Billboard collapses in Malate due to Nando's strong winds
A large billboard in Malate, Manila collapsed due to strong winds brought by the southwest monsoon and intensified by Typhoon Nando on Tuesday, Sept. 23. No one was reported injured.
The Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO) immediately responded to remove the collapsed billboard which was attached to a hotel structure.
According to initial reports, the billboard’s metal frame was dislodged and fell in front of the building. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were recorded.
Emergency personnel were quickly deployed to the area to clear debris and assess possible risks to nearby pedestrians and motorists.
The MCDRRMO also coordinated with local officials and building administrators to ensure that the site was secured to prevent further accidents.
The agency reminded residents of Manila to remain vigilant as weather disturbances continue to bring heavy rains and winds to the city. “Mariin pa din po naming pinapayuhan ang lahat na mag-ingat ngayon. Sa kabataan natin, kayo ay walang pasok ngayon at pakiusap huwag na kayong gumala pa. At sa mga nanay at tatay namin, at sa lahat ng mga may trabaho ngayon ay mag-iingat po kayo sa inyong pagpasok at pag-uwi. (We strongly advise everyone to take precautions. To the youth, classes are suspended today, so please stay indoors for your safety. To our parents, workers, and all who need to travel, we urge you to be extra careful on your way to and from work),” the advisory read.
Authorities further warned that similar incidents may occur in other parts of the city due to loose signage, billboards, and construction materials exposed to strong winds.
Inspections are being conducted in coordination with barangay officials to ensure public safety.
Typhoon Nando, which continues to affect parts of Luzon, has prompted the suspension of classes and work in several areas, with disaster response teams placed on heightened alert.
