Super typhoon 'Nando' causes power outages across Luzon

The onslaught of Super Typhoon “Nando” caused brownouts in several areas of Luzon, including parts of Batanes, Cagayan, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, and Batangas.
According to the National Electrification Administration (NEA) on Monday, Sept. 22, Batanes Electric Cooperative (Batanelco) has faced a total power interruption, while partial power outages hit Cagayan II Electric Cooperative (Cagelco 2), Ifugao Electric Cooperative (Ifelco), Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC), and Batangas II Electric Cooperative (BATELEC 2).
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), on the other hand, noted that Abra Electric Cooperative (Abreco) and Cagelco II are experiencing power fluctuations due to the unavailability of the San Esteban-Bangued 69 kilovolt (kV) line and the Lallo-Sta. Ana 69 kV line.
“Please note that loss of power may be caused by affected transmission facilities of NGCP or distribution facilities of local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives (ECs),” NGCP said.
The grid operator stated that the inspection and restoration of affected lines will proceed once weather conditions improve.
It added that some outages in Luzon may also be due to issues with distribution utilities (DUs) or electric cooperatives, with specific areas determined by the concerned DUs unless the entire franchise area is affected.
Meanwhile, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) assured its readiness to solve any power concerns in its service areas, particularly Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, Laguna, Quezon, Batangas, and Pampanga.
Meralco advises its consumers to observe safety measures during flooding to avoid any hazards or danger.
Those who wish to report any power incidents may contact Meralco through its social media pages or hotline at 16211, or 0920-9716211 and 0917-5516211.
