Do you want to see House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III's statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN)? No problem.
In a chance interview with House reporters Monday, Sept. 22, Dy said he was willing to make public his SALN as part of the broader goal of restoring the public's trust in lawmakers.
"Yes kung kakailanganing ipakita yung sakin (Yes if I must show mine), why not," Dy, Isabela's 6th district congressman, said in direct response to a question about his SALN.
Dy took over the Speakership from Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez only last Sept. 17.
Dy's colleagues in the House from the Akbayan Reform Bloc had earlier challenged solons to give the public access to their SALNs.
Public officials and other workers in government are periodically required to submit their SALNs. Whether or not Filipinos can view it is another matter.
Dy supports the notion to make lawmakers' SALNs accessible to Filipinos.
"Sa tingin ko naman sa ngayon ay kailangan talaga na maging--makita nila na ang ating mga miyembro, at hindi lang dito sa miyembro ng ating mababang kapulungan, dito sa Kongreso, ay dapat talagang makita at maging bukas ang SALN ng bawat isa," he said.
(I think right now what we need to show the people is that the every member's SALN is open, not just the members of the lower chamber but of Congress.)
"Para sa ganun talagang maipakita natin sa ating mga kababayan at manumbalik ang pagtiwala sa atin (This will really show our peole that we are worthy of their trust)," the Speaker added.
Whether fairly or unfairly, members of Congress (House and the Senate) are the subjects of public outrage in connection with the massive flood control projects corruption scandal.
