The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) carried out pre-emptive evacuations and rescue operations in Northern Luzon on Monday, September 22, due to the impact of Super Typhoon “Nando”.
In Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur, personnel of the Coast Guard Sub-Station Sta. Catalina, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) safely evacuated 37 families composed of 80 individuals from the villages of Cabittaogan, Paratong, and Subec.
Residents were transported using BFP ambulances to safer areas as part of proactive measures to protect vulnerable communities from flooding.
Meanwhile, in Santa Ana, Cagayan, the Coast Guard District North Eastern Luzon (CGDNELZN) deployed its deployable response group (DRG) to Barangay Rapuli following reports of rising seawater.
During house-to-house inspections, the team rescued two families composed of eight individuals, including six children, who were trapped inside their homes as waters surged.
They were safely brought to Sitio Limbus in Purok 1 for shelter.
Coast Guard personnel and DRG teams were on heightened alert to swiftly respond to emergencies as authorities warned of more flooding in low-lying and coastal areas with the continued impact of Nando.
