ILOILO CITY – Smuggled cigarettes valued at P57 million were recovered in Belison town, Antique province on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Seven suspected smugglers were apprehended.
Three trucks loaded with 1,142 boxes or 576,020 packs of illicit cigarettes were intercepted in the anti-smuggling operation conducted by the 1st Antique Provincial Mobile Force Company under the supervision of Police Col. Conrado Rances III and the Bureau of Internal Revenue office in Antique.
Asnawie M. Mamongcara, BIR Antique assistant revenue district officer, said this would have resulted in more than P34.5 million in tax revenue losses for the government.
The 1st Antique PMFC was supported by Antique Police Provincial Office Intelligence Unit, Belison Municipal Police Station, and the Regional Special Operations Group of the Police Regional Office-6.
